"Twitter" Top Word of the Year
If you've not hopped on the bandwagon yet, you may as well go create you a twitter account. It's especially helpful during this time of year finding deals and what's going on. Strangely enough, I find that twitter is my main source of news lately. Anyway, this year Twitter has really caught on, in fact, it's the top word of the year. The link also contains other words, phrases, and people that have been popular this year.

Your Internet Dependency Level
The other day I came across this Wired article ( it's a little dated) about Rating Your Internet Dependency Level. Mine, at times, can hit any of these levels. My level is directly proportional to how bored I am. Lately I've kept myself busy in the real world and I've not been online as much as normal (I'm sure you've noticed by the lack of blogging). I really enjoyed the humor in this... kinda makes you realize how addicted you really are.

Beatles 3000
A perspective of the History Channel on the Beatles, 1000 years from now. I really love the History Channel... this sounds accurate enough for me.

Happy Thanksgiving -- 32 Facts

Happy Thanksgiving.... the American holiday where we eat a lot, nap, and watch football. It's a little more than that, but that sums up a lot of it. It seems like I always have trouble finding articles addressing a holiday until it is over, then there is an abundance. I was actually searching for one and found this page listing 32 interesting Thanksgiving Facts. Enjoy the facts, and enjoy your holiday.

Best Gadgets of the Decade

We'll probably start seeing all kinds of "Best ____ of the Decade" coming up soon, but this is actually the first I've seen so far. It's the "Best 20 Gadgets of the Decade". I'm sure you'll see a lot more, and probably see some more here on this blog, but since this is the first I've seen, I thought it was worth mentioning. Although I don't necessarily agree with all of these, I probably couldn't make a better one off the top of my head.

Star Wars Band Names
It probably wouldn't be a good idea to name your band after Star Wars, but if you did there are several cool names to choose from. Wired ran an article about 50 Great Star Wars Band names that you may want to check out before naming your band. I really couldn't choose my favorite from the list, they're all pretty good.

I want Rings
I'm sure we would get accustomed to them just as we have clouds and the blue sky, but it seems like it'd be neat to have rings around Earth. I'm sure there would be some kind of detrimental problems with them, but they'd make for a neat sky.

8-Bit Left 4 Dead

Sometimes I feel like modern game's graphics can get in the way of game play. I enjoy the classics and even the music of the old 8-bit games. Here is a version of Left4Dead that has been ported to 8-Bit. This game looks like a lot of fun, hopefully I'll remember that when it comes out. When I was reading this article they mentioned that this is what Left4Dead would look like it if it was released in the 80's. I hadn't realized it had been that long since the NES... that makes me feel older.

R2-D2 in Star Trek
If you've not seen the new Star Trek movie do so soon (even if you don't like Star Trek). Now that that's out of the way, here's a link of a scene from the movie showing R2-D2 (from Star Wars) floating in debris. It's pretty neat when hidden Easter Eggs are discovered in movies.... leave it up to the the geeks, and they will find them. The picture here is pretty high resolution allowing you to see him floating by.
The History of the Internet
We all know the Internet started with Al Gore, but how did it really all progress? Here is a brief summary of the History of the Internet and how some of the wonderful stuff we see to day came to be. It's hard to believe we once lived in a world without YouTube, Wikipedia, or worse... Google. Fortunately, now we have the internet in our pocket (or attached to our belts) with smart phones and netbooks. What a wonderful world it has become.

The Meaning of Life in a Cartoon
OK, perhaps it's not the meaning of life, but it's a life's lesson. It's cleverly done, hope you enjoy.

Meaningful Distraction
About a week ago I saw this great article come across twitter and I thought I'd share. It's about a pastor who had cancer and received a pager. When someone was praying for him, he would get a page. More goes on, but that and telling you it's worth reading is my way of making you want to read the article. I found this a very inventive idea and an inspiring story.

Geek Laws that Should Exist
The other day I pointed you to some common Geek laws that you should know. Today, Wired Magazine put out an article of 10 geek Laws that Should Exist. Many of these are true and just make sense to instate them as laws. However, they must first become a bill and be passed before the geek congress. Who does make the web standards anyway.
Roomba PacMan
When you combine a great classic arcade game with a robot that vacuums your floor, great things are bound to come. This guy has done just that with this PacMan Roomba.

Interesting Geography

This is RARE, but I got a FW: email this morning that I actually read (that is odd for me, but I was bored, and it wasn't from a known forwarder), but I actually enjoyed it. This is one of the are occasions when I'll share one. I'm saving my dignity and not forward it on to my contact list, but post it here and leave it up to you to read. I assume since you're here, you're probably bored anyway. I looked up the subject of the forward and found this replication of it. Here is the link to several interesting Geography facts. A lot of these I really didn't know and found interesting (as the title states).

20 Sports Things that Make you Look Like a Doofus
Yesterday on Mike & Mike in the morning they were going over this list of "20 Things that Make You Look Like a Doofus". The first few may be a little silly, but stay with it, it's a really funny list. It'll have you saying "I've seen that guy", or maybe "Dude, I totally master those scoreboard games".

Using an Apostrophe
I will not claim to be great at grammar, but I'm pretty good with the basics. If you're a member of the grammar police, you'll love this page on "Using an Apostrophe". It goes over the basic rules, but in a fun way that may stick for you. You will also find a few other interesting surveys/links at the bottom of the page, but I found this lesson on grammar strangely enjoyable.

Rubber Duck Method of Debugging

Today at work I rolled out a new scheduling/paging program that I've been working on. My programs while in the build process will require a lot of debugging and going over logic issues. Sometimes the major problem is right there staring me right in the face, but it takes me forever to see it. Here is a great method of debugging called "The Rubber Duck Method" that seems to work quite well for logic issues. I've used it several times, but never knew the name until a friend pointed it out to me today. Viva la ducky.

12 Extreme Parking Errors
It's amazing how difficult people make driving, especially when it comes to parking. Here is a collection of 12 Extreme Parking Errors. Some of these are pretty painful to watch. I hope alcohol is involved in some of these, and they aren't that bad of drivers all the time. This gives you something more to worry about when you park your precious car unattended.

Halloween Stuff
I'm not a fan of Halloween. I'm not sure when or why this occurred, but I'm really happy when it's over. With that said, some really good things can come from it. Here are a few of my favorite Internet videos featuring Halloween "stuff".
Skeleton Dance -- it's just classic:
Zombie Kid likes turtles -- I can't stop laughing when I watch this.
Be careful whom you scare -- Halloween Backfire
Of course there is Thriller too, but we've all seen that.

Permanant Marker Bandits

This may be one of the best dumb crook stories I've seen yet. As opposed to a clever disguise or breaking in during the dark, these guys used a permanent marker to avoid being identified. There's several problems with this that I won't go into. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the mugshot should say all that needs to be said. I'll just say, the moral of the story is, kids, if you're going to take the road of a life of crime, leave alcohol out of it.
