MegaMan Cosplay
I just know that someday I'll do this to my kids. The kid will hate it when he grows up, but it's just so cute now. I like the "calling Rush" section.... it's funny if you've played MegaMan and know who Rush is.

There, I Fixed it
I'm a big fan of doing things yourself. Even if something is fairly cheap to purchase, many times I'll try to fix it myself for the pure challenge. Here is a site that takes this to the extreme called "There, I fixed it". It's a site about extreme, if not reckless ingenuity, that's quite enjoyable. I'm not sure I'd want to know that something kind of important (for example, my life) depended on this, but it's neat to look at nonetheless. I wonder if this would get the MacGyver seal of approval.

First Time with a Walkman

I don't think about it too often, but it wasn't too long ago when people carried boomboxes on their shoulders. The Walkman changed everything. It made music portable. I remember when my brother turned 10, he got a Walkman for his birthday. It seemed like the best thing ever. Kids nowadays just don't know what they've missed out on, with mix tapes and such. My favorite part was when the tape would get eaten and you had to carefully take it out without breaking it, then respool it, hoping that it didn't have a big enough crease to get eaten the next time at the same place. Anyway, here is a great story about a 13 year old kid who traded in his iPod for a Walkman for a week. From reading this, it seems that the kid wrote the article and did an excellent job. MP3's and MP3 players are very superior, and such a great invention, now this guy knows how fortuated he is.
*On a side note, best use of a Walkman (or Walkman like device) was in the movie Iron Eagle.... I'm sure that skyrocketed sales.

Another Famous Danville Resident

As most of my readers know, I've moved recently from Pikeville, KY to Danville, PA. I pretty much know nothing about the area, nor anyone. As you've noticed, I haven't been blogging as much as usual because I'm usually out of the evenings exploring the area. Tonight was no exception. I walked (roundtrip) approximately three miles through the city and down to the Susquehanna river. As I was walking my wife noticed a sign about Chirstopher Sholes (inventor of the typewriter) being from Danville. When we got home, she looked it up, and sure enough, he did his apprenticeship right here in Danville, PA. Now when I get famous, I'll be another famous person who lived in Danville.... get your autographs now.

The Fighting Asparagi
From the Santa Cruz banana slug to the fighting pickle of NC School of Arts, strange mascots are everywhere. This morning on "Mike and Mike in the Morning" they were discussing the mascot search for The College of William and Mary in Virginia. One of the options is to have the mascot be an asparagus. You may at first think this an unworthy mascot, but I've found I often underestimate the power of the asparagus until it's time to get rid of water... then I remember the power of the asparagus.
Best Basketball Shot Ever?
I've seen a lot of great basketball shots posted online, but this one has to be one of the best I've seen. I love his classmate's reaction. Good thing it was on video or no one would believe it... and I'm still kind of skeptical.

I just came across this picture and thought it was one of the funniest I've seen in a while. Original link came from here.

Cops Pull over the Mario Bros.
Here's a video I was sent showing what happens when regular cops pull over Mario and Luigi. I guess cops in our world are different than they are in the Mushroom kingdom.

10 Unusual and Creative Restaurants
When I go out of town I try to go to restaurants that are not "chain" restaurants, that way I can get a unique experience. Here is a link to 10 of the most unique restaurants you'll ever hear of. Some of these would be quite interesting to eat at, some others, not so much. I guess I just don't really understand why someone would want to eat at a few of these. The ninja restaurants sounds neat, but a little scary (especially if you're a pirate).

Best Animal Father's

Just in time for Father's day, here is a list of some of the top father's in the animal kingdom. Some of these I knew, but a few came as a surprise. I watched an episode of "Most Extreme Animals" on Animal Planet a year or so ago featuring the top animal fathers, but I'm not sure what ranked where.

John Hodgman on Obama
I've said a few times now that I'm not one to get in to politics here, but with that said, I am one to enjoy humor related to politics. Here is a John Hodgman speech given the other night at a correspondents dinner. I found this very humorous, Hodgman, once again did a great job.

Party Cat likes to Party
Not something I normally would blog about, but I found this on reddit a few moments ago, read through the whole thing and thought I'd share. It's a comic about a cat who likes to party called Party Cat.... it's nothing incredible, but entertaining nonetheless.

Kevin Van Aelst Art
Everyone likes a good work of art, but it takes a creative mind. Here is a link of an artist named Kevin Van Aelst who has taken some ordinary items and made them extraordinary. I really enjoyed these and thought I'd share, although some of these, I wouldn't want to purchase and put them my house.

Karaoke Songs No One Wants to Hear
A few weeks ago I was having a conversation about karaoke and how someone always pulls out the "Baby Got Back" song to sing and usually does a horrible job. Last week I found this link showing 10 Karaoke Songs No One Wants to Hear and sure enough, it made the cut. I guess this is just advice on how not to embarrass yourself when at a karaoke contest. Also, despite what you may believe, alcohol isn't going to make you a better singer either.
Lunch Bag Art

I found (or was sent) this site a few months ago, but lost the link until just a bit ago. It's called Lunch Bag Art, and just as you would expect, they have some great images of art on lunch bags. Why pay more for a lunch bag that isn't personalized, when every brown bag is a fresh pallet to display your uniqueness.

Virtual Apple 2 - Oregon Trail
I wasn't doing too much with computers at the time of the Apple 2 and Oregon Trail, but I've heard it's one of the most enjoyable games. I haven't really tried it out too much yet, but the other day a friend sent me a link to this Virtual Apple 2 "Oregon Trail" game. From what I've seen of it, I can see how you could get addicted. For all you old school computer gamers out there, this one's for you.

What to do With Your Old VCR
I'm sure we all have old VCR's hanging out around the house. If you like taking things apart, this may actually help you make some extra money. Here's a Gizmodo article showing you what you can do with that extra VCR. As suggested, make sure you have the marshmallows, or else you're in for trouble.

Moving Blues
I'm not sure if you've noticed, but lately I haven't been blogging as usual. I'm preparing for my move to Central PA for my wife's pediatric residency. I'm not really getting online too much of the evenings due to visiting and packing and such. We're heading out this Friday and will be getting Internet hooked up next Monday so hopefully blogging will be back to normal by Tuesday or so. Same as with the Hawaii trip, feel free to follow my moving adventures on Twitter/Plurk on the side of the page (granted they won't be as exciting as the Hawaii trip).
For those interested in the details, the plan is to move to PA while my wife completes her residency, which will last 3 years. Upon completion, we will be heading back to KY again for her to find a hospital/practice to work in. I guess I can make this announcement publicly now, but if you're wondering about what I'm doing for a job, fortunately, I'm keeping my same one. I'm going to be working from home (in PA) as a network administrator/programmer (and whatever else is asked of me) for the hospital I currently work for in KY.
Thanks to everyone who has helped, will be helping, or have just sent their best wishes for the move.

Socially Awkward Penguin Signs

I'm not too great with social situations. They tend to be very awkward and mentally taxing. I came across this "Socially Awkward Penguin" site yesterday and really enjoyed it. I really can identify with the penguin. It took me a bit to get the general gist of the signs, but once I got started I got the point.

Shin Kicking as a Sport
Talk about your shin dig.... Who knew shin kicking was a sport. Another violent sport I don't understand why people put themselves through, but yet it's entertaining. When doing a small amount of research, I found this list of reasons it should be an Olympic sport.
Self-Checkout Saves $ and Calories
I'm really enjoying the self-checkout systems a lot of stores have implemented lately. Not only do they save you time, but they could save you money and calories. I'm not sure that this article applies too much to me, I'm not much of an impulse buyer. I really dislike going to the store, so when I'm there, I want to get what I need and get out as quickly as possible. The only problem I have with the self-checkouts is that they're always full with people who don't know how to use them.

Hospital Turns away Patients Dut to Down Records System
If you don't already know I work as a Network Administrator at a hospital. I've often thought, that as far as day to day operations go, I make people's jobs easier, but not really effect patient care too much. I've said several times that if someone's computer goes down, and I can't fix it, it's probably not a huge deal. Here is a story about a hospital that turned away patients due to their electronic medical record (EMR) system being down. I found this story a little alarming, especially considering hospitals are being required to migrate to a EMR system by 2015. It seems like this isn't a very good reason to turn away patients, so this seemed a little strange to me. I heard a theory that the reason they turned people away could've been due to billing as well.
On a side note, I feel our EMR system is pretty redundant and robust (knock on wood, nothing is perfect). When reading stories like this, though, it is a wake up call to make sure everything is working correctly.

Han Solo PI
My wife sent me this video of the Magnum PI intro substituted with Han Solo scenes. You can watch this and think "Oh, that's neat", but if you want to be amazed, check out the side by side comparison video. You'll then see how great a job this guy really did. If you look around YouTube, you'll find a lot of videos done similar to this. There is a Star Wars MacGyver video that I enjoyed as well (I watched enough MacGyver growing up, that I know how accurate the intro is).

7 Star Trek Kids
I actually didn't get too much into Star Trek until I was around 10 or 11, but when I did, I was hooked. Here is a site featuring 7 Kids Guaranteed to be Trekkies. Some of these are a bit annoying, but you get the point. I'm still not what I would consider a die hard Star Trek fan (I don't own a stuffed trible), but I really enjoy it.
Eating the Hottest Pepper
I don't mind spicy food as long as it doesn't effect the taste. I don't understand the appeal of eating hot food just to say you've done it. This guy can now order "Thai hot" food... he also no longer has an esophagus.

Designer Gas Masks

I'm not really quite sure how to take this site featuring designer gas masks. I can't really imagine many situations where you would need a designer gas mask (as opposed to a normal model), but maybe there is a market for it. Kind of weird... I don't make this stuff up, just share it.
