US Illiteracy Rate around 14%

One of my favorite things to do is read. When I get some free time, either reading useless junk online or grabbing a novel and delving into it are some of my favorite things to do. It's something I take for granted really. Here is an article with some figures from 2003 showing our illiteracy rate of US adults at 14%. This is almost unbelievable and very disturbing. It makes me wonder what the illiteracy rate of high school graduates is. Also available in the linked article is a breakdown by state and county.
