Where are the Internet Super Stars

Last night one of my regular readers sent me this link to a list of Internet Superstars and where they are now. It's hard becoming an Internet superstar and even more difficult to keep the status. This list is pretty informative, but I'm not sure who the first superstar was. The first I remember was the Star Wars kid (which wasn't mentioned in the list), but that was around 2002. Either way, it's still a really good article, to remind us that Internet stardom just kind of happens. You don't have to be talented, or even interesting, just be somewhere on the Internet.

The Great Clapper Caper

I remember watching a lot of Johnny Carson when I was a kid. During the various breaks and on Friday nights, I would stay up late to catch his show. The type of comedy Mr. Carson had is not found much in today's world. This video of the Clapper Caper is an excellent example of this clever type of comedy.

Optimal Seating for a Plane Crash

I don't fly too much, but at least 3 times per year. I have on occasion wondered what the optimal seating for safety in the event of a crash is. Here is a link to a bigger version of the picture, although there is not much of an explanation. Hopefully none of us have to find out which is best, but at least now you know.

Zombo com

I was reading an article today about the 10 most useless websites and found a link to zombo.com. I'm not too sure I understand it's purpose and must agree it's pretty useless. Actually I've had it on in the background for the past few minutes and it's kind of hypnotic. If anyone can make sense of this let me know.

GNR on the Dr. Pepper Fiasco

I probably need to stop blogging about this, but I figure since I've already mentioned it a few times and reminded as many people as I could think of to sign up for the Free Dr. Pepper last Sunday, that I may as well share some more with you. Just in case you haven't been keeping up, Dr. Pepper offered everyone a free Dr. Pepper if Guns N' Roses would release their new album. Last Sunday was the day to sign up and the site completely failed. Here is a link to an article discussing how GNR was not too happy about this. I'm pretty sure my registration went through, I sent the link to a few friends, but I'm not too sure how many people were successful with it. I actually had to try twice before it'd let me register. Hopefully to be fair, they'll reopen the registration.

Cat on Roomba

This Cat on a Roomba video has been very popular on the Internet lately. Another item that represents exactly what YouTube is for. I've mentioned this to a few people that hadn't seen it, so I thought for those of you who have not seen it yet, I'd post it.

10 Odd Bacon Foods

Since I was very small, I've been a huge fan of bacon. My grandparents tell stories of a little me running around the kitchen saying "bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon" while breakfast was cooking (I guess kind of like the beggin strips dog). Anyway, as much as I like bacon, some of these 10 Odd Bacon Foods, seem a little much for me to stomach. With that said, with the exception of bacon cereal, I'd love to try any of these.

Turkey Papercraft

Tomorrow is a huge day for families around America.... it's Thanksgiving. It's the day we gorge on enormous amounts of food, spend some time with family, watch some football, and take a nice Autumn nap. If during this time you want to give the kids a really neat project to do, here is a papercraft turkey. Now the adults won't be the only ones to be making a turkey tomorrow. I usually will try these crafts out when I post them, but tomorrow I'm hosting Thanksgiving here and will not get much time to make a paper turkey :).

Kung Fu Clowns

I came across this video a few days ago. I love the first scene where the fish is thrown as a slipping device. When commercials are this good, I have no problem putting them on my blog... free advertising for the company. I really enjoyed the commercial, it was Super Bowl quality.

Snake Trapped in a Car

Here is another happy animal story. Snakes aren't known to get a lot of sympathy, but this one trapped in an air conditioner fan for a week, sure gets mine. The owner decided to get a clunking (not hissing) noise in the A/C checked out only to find it was a snake, and it was still alive. Not really what one would expect when doing car repair, but I'm sure it happens occasionally. The snake was a little cut up, but it's gonna make it. The article doesn't say what's going to become of the snake, but at least it'll live a little longer now. My wife's car's fan motor has been making some noise lately, although if it is a snake, it'd be stinking by now.

10 Loveable, Horrible, Geeky, Movies

Since you haven't had enough lists yet, here is another list I really enjoyed. It's "10 Geeky Movies That Were Terrible, but We Loved Them Anyway" that Wired Magazine has compiled. I've seen most of the movies mentioned here and I must admit, they are pretty bad, but yet enjoyable. If you like this list, the article has a lot more like it linked.

10 Irritating Phrases

There are several quick things people often use that work in situations, but are really over used or not used correctly. Here is an Oxford compiled list of 10 irritating phrases. There are a few of these that I personally (hehe) have thought of recently, so I really enjoyed this article. I guess it's not really a big deal, we all have phrases that irritate us, and I'm sure I've probably used each of these at some point in time. I could list the 10 phrases here, but that takes the fun out of the clicking.

The Reliability of the NT

A few years ago I read a book titled "Reading the Bible with Heart and Mind". It was a very good book describing why the Bible was true and reliable. When you talk to a Christian, most of their arguments will come from the Bible. That's all well and good, unless you think the Bible is untrue. Once the Bible is determined to be inerrant, and not just something a bunch of old people made up to keep humans in line, valid points can be made from it. Here is an article from the Billy Graham Evangelical Association that goes through some of the main reasons the New Testament is reliable. This reminded me of the book I mentioned earlier, summing up several points made in it. I feel like it was an intelligent article and made great points. In the end when you're talking with someone who doesn't believe in God, it is a matter of faith, neither party can be proven 100% incorrect.

Hamster on a Piano

This video is highly annoying, but for some reason it's also intriguing. It has also become quite a viral video and I've heard several references to it lately, so I thought I'd share.

Vader and Yoda out of Butter

One ingredient that makes almost anything delicious is butter, but another is Star Wars. When you combine the two together, you get a giant slab of deliciousness. Here is a link to a site that talks about a sculpture of Yoda and Vader made of butter. The sculptor did a great job, it seems like butter would be an odd base to work with. I guess all you need is a hot knife.

USB Heated Gadgets

Lately I've really not been enjoying this cold weather. It's not even winter, but yet it's been ridiculously cold. Fortunately, there are are several USB Gadgets available to help out. Here is a list of 10 USB Gadgets that'll help take the chill away. My personal favorite is the heated mousepad, which seems silly, but it's only $15 + your hand gets to look like it's getting eaten by a fish.

Really Sweet Cubicles

A few years ago I worked at a call center. Most of my time there was spent in a cubicle. It wasn't bad, just they're all the same. Unfortunately for me, I switched around alot and rarely kept a cubicle for more than a couple weeks. Most the time, my cubicles were kind of boring and bland.... nothing like the sweet cubicles in this link. Actually I think I once posted a link to the one that was made into a house, but it's worth seeing again.

Bike Hero

When I read the description of this I didn't think it would be too great, but it's rather amazing. It's one of those things you must see to appreciate. It takes a few moments to realize what's going on, but once you get the hang of it you realize it's pretty cool.

Nebraska Kid Drop Off

As I was driving around yesterday morning in Austin, TX, I tuned into one of their radio shows to hear them talking about the state of Nebraska allowing you to drop off your kids for giveaway. This law was made with excellent intentions of preventing unwanted newborns from being abandoned. The problem is, they forgot to set an age limit. Apparently, this minor loophole has been a major problem for them. People have been coming from all over the country to drop off their problematic kids and teenagers. One of the topics the radio show host was bringing up was, "How bad does your teenager have to be before you trek from Florida to Nebraska to drop them off?". He had callers call in and give their ideas on this. I'm not a parent, but I can imagine that it gets frustrating at times, but would take a lot to get to that point. I believe they are currently in the progress of adjusting this law, but it's not been done yet.

Carrot Clarinet

If you ever find yourself wanting to jam out and have an extra carrot lying around.... here's an idea.... I find this hard to believe, but I guess it'll work. I wonder if this guy got first chair all state carrot when in high school All-State band competitions.

Tying Shoes Methods

You probably don't really think of it very much, but who made the rules that you must lace and tie your shoes a certain way. Here is a link to several different methods to lace and tie your shoes. OK, it's probably not as fun to adults, but it may be something neat to do for your kids.

1,000 + Year Old Humans

While looking for things to blog about, I just came across this article about how humans could possibly live to be over 1,000 years. Something of myths, this fountain of youth, may be discovered with Science (not a literal fountain obviously). This is very controversial in many ways, and it's easy to not believe, but since it's on the Internet, it's hard to dispute. Thought this was an interesting article that brings up many interesting ideas. Here's to you Ponce de Leon.

SadTrombone.com

Throughout the day we have several failures... I suggest keeping up sadtrombone.com and pushing play to give your or your coworkers failures new meanings. It sure beats carrying around a trombone so you have it on hand for the occasion. Not as creative as some other things I've seen, but I thought I'd let you know it was out there.

Lego Metallica

I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I like their music from time to time depending on the mood I'm in. I must admit their new album isn't too bad, it goes back to their old style when they were good. Here is a really great lego music video of their song "One", one of their classics. I actually like this music video much better than a lot of the other ones you see on TV. I would've embedded this, but embedding has been disabled for this video.... it's well worth the click though.

To Scale Noah's Arc

It seems like I've heard of a few of these projects before, but never heard of one completely come together. A man has made a to scale replica of Noah's arc. Turns out, it was a massive boat. When I saw the pictures, my thoughts were... OK, now what, but according to the article he is going to make it into a petting zoo. Also in plans for this arc is to put in a movie theater showing a film telling what Christianity is all about.
Now that you've seen the replica, if you want a refresher on the story, here is a link to Genesis 6-9 where you can find out what really happened and why.

Batman Sues Batman the Movie

I really dislike all these silly copyright suits that have been popping up lately. This story may be one of the worst I've heard. The city of Batman is threatening to sue the director of the Batman movie. Really??? was my response. There's so many things wrong with this story. Now if the city of batman was in the country of Gotham, they may have a case.

Mario Music With Bottles

Here's another YouTube example of someone who had a lot of creativity, too much time and too much alcohol. Based on this video, at least they were not operating an RC car while under the influence of the alcohol, they did rather well. I'm wondering just how much time you must put into aligning these bottles and getting the right sounds to do something like this.

What IT People Think

Here is a really well written article I feel like most people in the IT field should enjoy. Our CIO sent it to our IT department this morning and it makes for a good read. The writer makes some really good points... one I like is "Worst of all, clueless users keep getting in the way of your big innovation projects by wasting your time with silly questions and pointless requests." He says this candidly, but later takes his point home by reminding us that we're just there to help the workers help the company, which is something we need to hear from time to time.

The Matrix Running Windows

This video of the Matrix running on Windows has been going around the Internet today... I've seen about 3 or 4 different links to it today. If you're a Matrix fan (then you haven't seen the 2nd or 3rd movie), then you'll probably enjoy this. I really enjoyed the scene when he's trying to bend the spoon and gets some assistance.

The Peguin and his Stuffed Brother

Here is a story bound to capture the heart of all animal lovers out there. A tiny penguin who missed it's parents was failing to thrive and got some new stuffed siblings to hang out with. It seems like I've heard before that penguins tend to take to stuffed friends fairly well, but this is just an interesting story. One of his new friends is very peculiar looking, but in the picture he's not ashamed to eat with him, and looks very proud to be beside him.

The Amazon Filler

"You need anything from Amazon?" is a common question asked in my household. My wife or I will be trying to fill the $25 mark so we can get free shipping, and will try to let things build up until we can complete the order. Here is a page dedicated to searching Amazon and finding an item that will fill you up to that free shipping mark. Instead of wasting your money on shipping you can get a smaller item for free (kinda). I found this to be a pretty good idea, although I haven't tried it yet to see how it works out.

Hard Day's Night Chord Mystery Solved?

For all my readers out there who are Beatles fans (which should be everyone), here is an interesting article about the "Hard Day's Night" chord mystery. I guess I'm kind of a newer Beatles fan... I came to love their music in the mid 1990's when the anthology albums were released. With that said, I was not aware of this mystery. I was aware, however, that when you pick up the guitar to play a Beatles song, chances are you're going to run into a challenge. Being a fan of the Beatles and a fan of music I found this to be a pretty good read. To save you a few seconds of your time Googling the chord to see if you can figure it out, here's a link to the YouTube video of the song (it's the very first sound you'll hear).

Math Trickery

The other day a friend sent me this video clip that I really enjoyed. Unfortunately this type of humor is not really seen on TV and movies any more. This is from a Ma and Pa Kettle film from the 40's. The guy was really shown up on his math skills...

Smart Car Body Kits

A few months ago my wife had to do a clinical rotation for medical school in Columbus, OH. On the weekends I would drive up there to see her. One of the things I saw a lot of was the "Smart" car. I had never seen or heard of these, so I was really kind of shocked when I passed one on the road. I noticed that the city had a lot of these little things driving around. Yesterday my wife came across this site of Smart car body kits that are really neat. They put me in mind of the little micro-machine cars that you used to be able to buy.

Darth Vader Toast

For some reason I've put a few different posts on here about toast (or toasters). I'm not gonna claim that this one is better than the others, but I'm due for another toast post. Here is a Star Wars toaster that makes pieces of toast with Vader's head on them. If you can describe making toast as fun... this may do the trick.

*Note: Earlier today I got an email from a reader who designs T-Shirts and has a pretty good Star Wars shirt. Actually that site has a lot of good Star Wars shirts on it, just do a search.

Spider Drawing as Currency

I came across this really odd interaction earlier today where a guy tries to pay his bill using a drawing of a spider. I must say, it's a pretty good drawing of a spider, and he really did put forth a great effort. I love the part where he asks for it back.... I got a really good laugh out of this.

Lobster Knife Fight

I thought I'd share this picture that my wife found earlier with you.... Very true words, except it should say "the awesomeness", instead of "the awesome", but I'm not one to judge for typos and grammar.

Question for November

For anyone who was wondering, I was waiting for the election to post this month's question...
Now for last month's results.

I've always heard that real gamers use PC's, but consoles have gotten very popular lately and there's just something about having a system (console) dedicated to gaming instead of tying up your PC.
Now, as mentioned, this month's question is about your feelings on the election. I try to stay away from politics on this blog, but here's your chance to express your opinion a little.
How do you feel about the US election?
I'm happy with the Results
My Candidate did not win
Not much there to vote for
I didn't vote, so my complaints don't matter
I don't talk about politics

Thanks to all those who voted last month and I'm looking forward to seeing how you vote on voting.

80's Cartoon Quiz

I hate to keep springing these quizzes on you, but these last two have been really good. When I was a kid, if I wasn't playing Nintendo, chances are I was watching cartoons, that's why these have interested me. This 80's cartoon quiz really interested me. A lot of these I knew w/o even having a choice, the ones I didn't, were because I didn't care enough to watch that cartoon. I scored a 12/15 or an 80%... feel free to post your scores in the comment section.

Geeky Bumper Stickers

I enjoy checking out the bumper stickers on peoples cars. You can learn a lot about someone by what their car says. Here is a link to a collection of geeky bumper stickers in the wild. You can find a lot of these at stores like Thinkgeek, but I've only seen a few of these in the wild.

Star Wars Presidential Attack Ads

I'm tired of this presidential election and as I'm watching the results come in, I have ran across this Star Wars Presidential Candidate ads. I must agree with Lando, how can you avoid the Palpatine building a Death Star factor.

Coffe Makes You Look Good

I came across this link last week sometime, and meant to link to it, but kind of forgot until I noticed how good I looked while drinking coffee. According to this study, you look better to a complete stranger if you're holding a cup of coffee.... this ties physical warmth to emotional warmth. This is another study brought to you by Dr. Chase and Dr. Sanborn.

700 Hobo Names

Earlier today while working I listened to this week's episode of TWiT which guest starred John Hodgman (the "I'm a PC" guy). On there they talked about a project he had participated in where he named off 700 hobo names (the music on this link is played by Jonathan Coulton). I was working so I was only partially paying attention and didn't hear the entire story, but I found this link to the list of the 700 Hobo names on E-Hobo.com.

Sweet Soccer Moves

I'm not sure if this is real or a making of a commercial of some sort, but it's some really sweet soccer (football) moves. If you can make moves like this, I think it's safe to call yourself a soccer ninja.

SMB2 Jazz Guitar

This video is really well done, whether you're a Super Mario Bros. fan or not. The same guy does both rhythm and lead guitar in separate frames making for one great jazz guitar duo with himself.
