A few moments ago I was searching for stuff to blog about but couldn't find much. Fortunately a friend sent me this video of a really well done YouTube Prank Call. The sad part about this is this call really isn't so unbelievable... there have probably been several calls similar to this to their support. Thinking about it though, YouTube would not translate well into a TV channel.
The person who sent this to me was the previous account manager of the call center I used to work at. He mentioned that would have been a fun call to have back when we worked at the call center. The support person here handled this call far better than they should have considering that the call was made to their cell phone.
Special thanks to Wally for the link!

Keep or Toss
We all have a bunch of junk in our house that probably needs to be thrown out, but we keep it around anyway. Being a pack rat can be a problem and sometimes intervention can be required. Enter the Internet and keeportoss.org. This site is simple yet addicting. Someone puts up an item and a description and you tell them if they should keep it or toss it. I even saw one girl put her boyfriend up there. Poor guy, his fate is decided by a website.

Wi-Fi Allergies
When I was a kid I had moderately bad allergies. I heard there were shots you could take for allergies, but first you had to take a bunch of shots to be tested for your exact allergies. This seemed like a bad idea to me at the time so I talked my parents out of it. I know there were a lot of shots in the initial test (possibly 100), but I don't think a Wi-Fi shot was one of them. Here is an article about a group in New Mexico trying to get Wi-Fi banned from public areas because it could cause allergies. I'm not a doctor, but I don't believe 802.11 is something you can be allergic to.

MacBook Air Cuts

Not too long ago my wife and I went to a Best Buy store in Huntington, WV and saw they sold Macintosh computers. My wife had her first encounter with a MacBook Air. Jokingly she said "The edges on them seem like they could cut you". Yesterday she found this article pointing to a guy who got cut by his Macbook air. It's a translated page, so the English isn't too great, but it's still an interesting point.

Badger Song
It has been brought to my attention that everyone online has yet to see the "Badger Song" video. I needed something to put in the classic category on here, so I thought I'd post it. I referenced the song earlier today and the three people I was talking to had no clue what it was.... I had to share. I'm not sure what it means, but it's hilarious and gets stuck in your head.
Special Thanks to Darrin for originally introducing me to the Badger song.
Warning: Although the badgers in this video are cute and cuddly beware of badgers in the wild, they are quite the feral animal.

Dumb Crooks of the Day
I saw this link of Dumb Crook News last night and I'm not really sure what to make of it. Was it bad luck or lack of intelligence that caused this robbery to go incredibly wrong. Whatever it was, it was on the side of justice.... I'll let you decide. I bet these guys had a bad headache the next day though.

Star Wars iPod Ads

A year or so ago there were some unique iPod ads of shadow dancers in brightly colored backgrounds. Here is a link to a collection of Star Wars iPod ads. I've seen these before, but I hope I haven't already put them up here, but if so, here's a reminder :).
Bonus: Speaking of cool Star Wars pictures, here is a pretty well done pseudo-ASCII art of Darth Vader.

Tattoos of Celebrities
I've wondered before "If I decided to get a Tattoo of something, what would it be?". Since it seems like it would really hurt and it's a life long decision, I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon. However if I did get one, I'm sure it wouldn't be of a famous celebrity. Here is a link of actual tattoos people have gotten in the image of celebrities. Some of these are really odd, but they're really good nonetheless. As if it wasn't permanent enough the Joe Dirt tattoo is sure to keep on keep'n on.

The White Castle Project

While watching TV yesterday I came across a show called "History on a Bun" which talked about the history of hamburgers and sandwiches. During the show they mentioned a guy who lived 13 weeks on nothing but White Castle sliders and water. I thought "this sounds like excellent blog material" so I Googled it. To my surprise there was this recent article about this study.

Calvin Sidle's Blog
When a friend of mine starts a blog I make it a point to endorse their blog. Recently my friend and favorite politician Calvin Sidle, started a new blog called "The Road Less Traveled". He already has some pretty good stuff on there and I'm sure you can expect more. I've know Calvin for about 4 or 5 years now and we share fairly similar interests. If you live in the city of Pikeville, KY you'll see his name on the ballot for city council. I've placed a link to his blog in the "links" section on the right side of the page for future reference.

Italian Spiderman
We've been seeing a lot of Superhero movies come out in theaters lately and most of them are pretty good (OK, maybe not Ghost Rider, but I said most). Now we're presented with an all new web movie series of Italian Spiderman. This is some pretty funny stuff... it's like Super Mario mixed with Austin Powers. It's quite odd, other than that I'm not too sure how to describe it. You'll have to check it out and judge for yourself. If you like the trailer... here's episode 1.

Dial This
Yesterday when I came home I had a message on my instant messenger that said "Dial 1-985-655-2500". I thought this was an odd message, and asked what it was for, my friend who sent it said "Just dial it". Just in case, I fired up Skype (for anonymity's sake) w/o a microphone and dialed the number. When I called it, I had a good laugh. I'm not gonna mention what answered, but you can try for yourself if you dare. If, in the future this is a "real number" and it causes spam to someone's real line, someone let me know and I'll take down this post.
This number kind of reminds me of something we set up at my work place. (I may have mentioned this before) We set up a number for "Leeroy Jenkins" a false employee whom we transfer our sales calls to. When transfered, the voice mail picks up and you hear a shout of "Leeroy Jenkins!" from the famous World of Warcraft video.
Special Thanks to James T. for this submission.

Internet Meets Good Music
I enjoy the band Weezer, but it's been a while since we've heard from them, until now. They've released a new video that features many of our favorite Internet stars. Fittingly, they released their video on YouTube, but this isn't the first time they've done something really nerdy cool. There was a copy of their "Buddy Holly" song on the Windows 95 CD. I'm looking forward to their new album coming out on June 3rd... this song seems pretty good, so that's at least one reason to check it out.
Crack That Whip
Yesterday the new Indiana Jones movie premiered. So far I've heard pretty good things about it, but have not seen it myself. Anyway, just in time for this movie, here is instructions on how to Crack a Whip like Indiana Jones. This is a fairly useful, but comical video. I particularly enjoy the snake in step two of the tutorial. Enjoy, and be careful.

Save money by Obeying the Speed Limit
I drive approximately 32 miles to work and 32 miles back each day. Fortunately, my car gets approximately 32 MPG, so whatever the price of gas is per gallon, it costs me double that to get to work and back each day. With that said, I must admit that I don't always drive the speed limit (55 MPH) while on my way to work. Here is a page dedicated to the financial benefits of driving 55 MPH. One of the cool things on it is a chart showing how much time you save by not driving 55... it's actually not really significant once you think about it. I'm going to try driving 55 MPH or less for the next week or so and see how it goes. With the prices of gas, it may pay off.
*NOTE: One major concern (because I've tried this before) is the dangers in driving this speed because no one else does. I usually end up getting pelted by coal from trucks or with many other angry drivers.

Wii Training Wheel

Mario cart of Wii, isn't necessarily the easiest racing game you'll ever play, especially if you're not controlling it correctly. Here is a "How To" telling you how to create a Wii training Wheel. I must admit that from time to time I hold the controller incorrectly (actually I don't use the Wii Wheel at all) and will mess up a turn. With the Wii training wheel, this can all be avoided. Of course it is kind of clunky looking, so I don't think I'll attempt it. However, there is a video of it in use on the linked website.

VerveEarth
I know that some of my readers are fellow bloggers, or have found this through blogger.com. With that in mind I thought I'd share a new website I learned about this morning called VerveEarth. I actually learned of this when the founder of the site sent me an email letting me know what it was about. When I went to the site I thought it was a pretty good idea. It actually reminds me of Frapper, but for all bloggers. You want to know who blogs in your city, you look up your city, and if they've registered, you'll find them. If you want to see what they blog about, click their name and their RSS feed will open to their recent blog entries. Currently I'm the only person to register in my city (Pikeville, KY), but even since this morning, the site is growing with users. If you have a blog, I encourage you to register it so others in your area can find out what you're saying (that is, if they can find verveearth).

Wee do it several times a day but don't really put too much thought into our trips to the urinal. If you're tired of your restroom trips being routine and boring well.... urine luck. Here is a link to an article about a urinal video game called Place to Pee. As I was reading about this, I thought this is weird, but perhaps cool, then I read about multi-player. I think I'll pee alone and stick with console gaming instead.

Man Nests on Rotterdam Tower
In Rotterdam, Netherlands a man has built himself a nest and is nesting on top of a large building. I'm not quite sure what to think about this one, other than I hope he knows he can't fly. The nest looks as though it is really well built, perhaps comfy even. There's not really a reason mentioned for these actions, nor a description of how this came to be, but it sure is strange. I would say he's gone batty, but perhaps cuckoo is more appropriate in this situation.

Still Huge Wii Sales
I remember when the Wii came out I got criticized for standing in line from people saying "Just wait a few months and they'll be everywhere". A year and a half later you can find a Wii nowhere. In April, though, Wii outsold all it's competitors combined. Personally I'm wondering where these Wiis were. Since I've had Mario Cart, I've tried to convince several of my "non-Wii owning" friends to pick one up. They've sounded interested, but none could find it. I would think that if the Wii was selling so many units more and more people would be talking about how they just got their Wii. I'm not calling Nintendo a liar, I'm just saying I don't know of anyone who has gotten a Wii in the last month (although I know people who have been looking) and I've not seen any out either. I am glad that I finally have the popular console system, I just hope they keep producing great games for it.

Call Centers Bad for Your Health
I spent 4 years of my life in a call center and didn't enjoy much of the taking calls part. Fortunately during my last year and a half I no longer had to be on the phone. A recent study shows that working in a call center and having to be "fake happy" can be bad for your health. We all know that laughter is the best medicine, but you just can't force it on yourself, especially if you're being yelled at. In regards to call centers and health, they're probably not that good for you anyway, you're confined to a small place and sit most of the day.

The Ultimate Tower

Sometimes technology gets really scary. It seems like we're one horrible idea away from a catastrophic event. Here is a link to an article about an idea to build a 2 mile high habitation for humans called "The Ultimate Tower". I applaud the designer for taking the design from nature and building a giant termite mound for us, but it seems like we have a giant point of failure. If the structure is weak.... a whole city is destroyed. It'd be kind of neat to see a 2 mile high building, but I'm just not sure how well it'd work out. I don't think I'm alone in not liking the idea... God didn't like a similar idea in Genesis 11.

SQRT(-1)
Earlier today on Digg.com I saw this pretty funny math joke. A lot of us had imaginary friends as children (some of us still do), so it only seems fit that numbers should have them as well. If you don't get the joke... the square root of a negative number cannot be calculated, so to allow them to be used, imaginary numbers were invented... in this joke the number has an imaginary friend .... HA! I really have been laughing about this one all day, so I thought I'd share it.
This joke was brought to you by the letter i.
*Note the title is the C++ function for square root of -1 (of course I need #include math.h). I don't think the sqrt function calculates imaginary numbers so it's probably incorrect.

Real Life Iron Men
A few weeks ago I blogged about the attempts of making a real life Iron man suit. Mentioned in that article was some armor that would make you a little stronger, but not by too much. Here is a recent article showing that we're much closer to making something similar to real life Iron Man suits. The article mentions that one of the main problems is battery power. I'd imagine it wouldn't be fun to be lifting something really heavy and your battery dying leaving you a weakling again. The idea sounds all well and good (especially with the type of ground war we're fighting), but we probably should worry about getting them the proper body armor and armored vehicles first.

An Infinite Path

Yesterday my wife sent me this link to a foot path made to look like infinity. Some people decided they wanted a path in the shape of infinity in their park so they walked/ran the shape of it until it appeared. There is a time lapsed video showing them running this shape and it slowly forming. It's actually pretty neat watching it develop. They did a really good job on this, I'm not sure how they managed to get that exact of a shape... perhaps they marked it off first. I like how you can see people staring at them and playing in the park in the elapsed video.... Kids, don't try this at home.

Finger Stache

Earlier today I sent the handphone link (see previous post) to a co-worker and he replied back with a much cooler link. He sent me a link to a picture of a "fingerstache". This is a trend that is gaining popularity in the tattooing world. You get a mustache tattooed on your finger and whenever you want a mustache, put your finger to your mouth. It works perfect. That really looks like a painful place to have a tattoo, so I may just stick with a sharpie... at least until I can find a design that best fits me. Here is a YouTube link of a guy describing a little bit about the fingerstache.
Handphone

Earlier today I came across this crazy invention called "The Handphone". It's as simple as it sounds... a phone on your hand. Wired kinda gave it a bad review, but it seems much cooler than the bluetooth ear pieces you see people wearing. It's kind of a new age Get Smart look (which I hear they're remaking a movie of). Of course then you'd have to hear "Dude, is that your hand ringing?".

Woody Allen & Billy Graham
Strangely enough I haven't heard too many Billy Graham speeches or sermons, although I have heard him mentioned quite a bit. From what I hear he is truly one of the greatest preachers of our time. Here is a segment from the 60's of an interview that Woody Allen did with him. The entire interview was not featured here, so check out part two as well. I found this interview to be very well done and was amazed at how well these two acted together. I wonder if Woody ever got around to that revival meeting.

Down in Fraggle Rock

I remember as a kid loving to watch Fraggle Rock. From time to time I'll walk around the house singing the theme song still. It is getting ready to join the many shows from my childhood that are being remade into live-action shows/movies. I really don't think it could be the same... On this, I think I will cast my cares away and not get my hopes up for this to be any good, hopefully it'll surprise me.

Hoff Teaches Us Not to Ride With Strangers
I found this odd David Hasselhoff video earlier today and thought it was worth sharing. As we know, the Hoff is huge in Europe and in this video features him in a left-sided (not sure what it's called, but the steering wheel is not where I'm accustomed to it) Kitt. As it turns out he teaches us not to take rides from strangers by being a real jerk in the video. For some reason I always feel really creeped out after watching one of his videos, but it had Kitt in it and that kind of makes it worth it.
Actually after looking at this closer, it may be from Australia, they mainly drive on the left side of the road and the video advertises his music on Australian iTunes.

Aliens Can Exist

Yesterday a statement was released from the Vatican stating that alien life does not contradict the Bible. I found this an odd thing for them to release, but perhaps the issue came up and they had to make a statement on it in one way or another. On this matter, I completely agree with their conclusion, no teachings in the Bible exclude aliens from existence.
I've kind of always believed this way and keep a hope that someday we could find other life. As someone who believes the Bible and that the God of the Bible is the one true God I have often wondered, if intelligent life was found, how is it that God has communicated with them, and what is their religion? I'm probably kind of odd for asking that question, but I've wondered. Of course if you don't believe the way I do, the answer would be, they believe whatever way the feel with whatever gods they created.

Mario Cart Causes Violence

Today on Digg, the top story was about Mario Cart being a menace. I bought Mario Cart for the Wii on the night of it's release and have been enjoying it every since. There's quite a bit of depth to the game and playing with real people adds a whole new factor. One of the things about the game is the dirtier you play, the better you do. I found this link quite funny.

Air Force to Possibly buid a Cyber Bomb
Wired Magazine did an article yesterday about the Air Force's idea to build their own botnet. The purpose of this would be so we would have some defenses in case cyber-warfare breaks out someday. Although the idea isn't completely as horrible as the Wired author would like us to believe, you gotta love his comments I'm sure that DDoS attacks could be useful to the military under certain circumstances. So could sending our enemies a bunch of unwanted magazine subscriptions, or ordering them dozens of pizzas with anchovies and pineapple (blech). But adults don't do that sort of thing. It's interesting that the military is at least considering some kind of defense against attacks on networks.

Gifts for the Gaming Mom
In preparation for Mother's day, on Friday Wired magazine ran this interesting article on "Gifts for the Gaming Mom". My mom is not too much into video games anymore, but at one time she could burn up Ms. Pacman. I bet if she grabbed a controller she'd be hooked again in a matter of minutes. In my opinion the Wii can make gamers out of most non-gamers, it's just simple fun.

Robot Chef
We've been imagining robots making our food for quite some time. It'd be very useful. Here is a video of a robot being taught how to make food followed by a demonstration. After watching this video, I thought, a robot must have a knife to make food, that's scary (except for the cute chef's hat). On second thought I think dinner may be best prepared yourself. Not to worry though, I don't think we'll have any robot Rachel Rays out there anytime soon.On a side note, one of their ads was for a make your own cylon (from Battlestar Galactica) contest. This seems really cool as well, except for the part where they kill most humans and destroy the world.

The story seems kind of familiar, so I may have blogged on it before, if so, this may just be an update (I couldn't find the story by searching on my blog for it). I had a fish a few years back that my wife trained to do really simple stuff like follow her finger or come to the top of the tank when the food container is shaken. Electric Signals Keep Sharks Away
I remember watching an episode of Batman where he pulled out a can of "Shark-Repellent Bat Spray" and warded off a shark (here's a video link to that). I remember thinking that every coastal dweller should have access to some of that. Recently, scientists have discovered that electric signals could be as effective. The article goes into further detail about how it works, but it seems like a pretty handy thing to do. I have always had kind of a strange feeling about taking animals out of their natural habitat though, but this could save many lives. Sometimes you just gotta live every week like it's shark week.

On Free Music

Yesterday I downloaded the free Nine Inch Nails album they are giving away. Before, this, I was not really exposed to any Nine Inch Nails music. To be honest I did not like their music that much and probably will not buy their next album. Now, I can say that I've heard their music, and I will put it in my iTunes play list and maybe it'll grow on me, so they still have a chance of getting my $10 next time. On the other hand, when Radiohead did the same a few months ago, I liked their music and would be somewhat likely to purchase their next album. I hadn't really been exposed to too much Radiohead before they gave their music away.
Giving music away seems to be a good idea for promotion, although I'm not sure how it's going to fit in. I've heard it said that bands make most of their money on tours and not necessarily on their album sales. This may be true, but they at least need their music distributed so people will flock to their concerts. I don't believe that entirely free music is the way, but some free music sometimes is good and when someone says "free" people flock. Great promo ideas for now, but I'm not certain how much it'll work with others in the future.

You don't have to even update your bookmark, you'll automatically be redirected. My domain name I purchased and pointed this blog to is http://www.brianjgreen.net, which if you notice is already in your address bar. If you made it this far then you're doing well. Just thought that'd be more informational just in case you wanted to know why http://brianjgreen.blogspot.com is no longer in your address bar. Also, this doesn't mean I have big plans of monetizing this blog or putting ads up or anything, I just wanted a domain name that may be easier for people to remember when I told them.

Nerd vs. Geek

Last summer at a church picnic some friends and I got in a long discussion of the differences between a nerd and a geek. The other day I came across this article of a similar discussion. Personally, I use the terms incorrectly and interchangeably.... it doesn't really matter to me, you'll figure out what I'm talking about. Chances are if you're a geek about something, you're probably a nerd as well. I feel it could be used as a way to separate out people who feel cooler than nerds, but want to seem smart. Put in your pocket protector, push up your glasses and join the land of dorkdom... it's a truly fun place to be.

Batman and Iron Man
Yesterday one of the top stories on Digg was this Batman and Iron Man video. I laughed for a good few minutes after watching this. So, even if you were one of the many Diggers who viewed it yesterday, it still may be worth a rewatch.... if not, enjoy.

Starbucks
For readers who are not Battestar Galactica fans (you should be), one of main characters on the show is Starbuck. In the old series the Starbuck was male, now Starbuck is female. There were some controversies at first about this, but it seems to have worked out fairly well. Anyway, I thought I'd make some images of Starbucks if they decided to sue the organization that took their name for copyright infringement.

Be a Real Life Iron Man
When I collected comics, I was always a fan of Iron Man. He seemed like a more "real" superhero than the rest of them, and the story line wasn't that bad either. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm kind of excited about it. The idea of building and wearing an iron suit always did seem a little silly to me (especially the one from his first appearance) , but perhaps it could happen. Here is a link to some ways it could kinda happen in real life.

Collector Killed by Cannonball
I'm a pretty big History fan, so when I see old war artifacts they always get my attention. Sometimes war relics can be deadly. Here is a tragic story about a guy restoring a civil war cannonball when it exploded on him. I find it amazing that the powder still worked after all these years. They explain quite a bit about how this happened in the article, it's always a risk when dealing with things like this.

The Empire Strikes Barack
I try not to do too much with politics on this blog, but I saw this "Empire Strikes Barack" Video yesterday and thought it was very fitting. I thought this video was really well done, and enjoy the superimposed heads. The cantina scene is also a great touch. The video is a little biased toward Obama, so I hope posting this doesn't offend Hillary fans, but hopefully their love for Star Wars will forgive it.
Free Eee PC for Opening an Account
I'm not sure if you've seen them yet or not, but the Eee PC's seem pretty neat. They have a 7 inch screen and are highly portable Internet Appliances (truth be told it'd prolly be ideal to blog with). At a Canadian bank, they're giving away free Eee PCs for opening an account. I'm fairly satisfied with my bank, but if a reputable bank was offering this deal around here, I'd be all over it. Seems like a way to get a lot of customers.

Wall-E + Hula Hoop
Much like a kid, I'm a fan of animated movies. I must admit, I'm really looking forward to this Wall-E movie due out this summer. Here is a link to Wall-E with a Hula Hoop. I really like what they wrote above the video... a lot of times laughter really is the best medicine. I thought this would be a good post for a Friday night.

Filthy Keyboard User
If you read this blog, chances are you spend a lot of time in front of a computer. If that's the case, you probably snack around at your computer desk from time to time as well.... Take a few seconds and look at your keyboard to inspect it for gunk. It's really hard to tell what you've dropped in there. Here is a study showing that some keyboards can be dirtier than a toilet seat. When you think about it, that's some pretty scary stuff. Word of advice, turn your keyboard upside down and shake it and spray it out with some compressed air. That's not totally effective, but it's better than nothing.

May Question
On April's Question I asked What is Your favorite Part of a Pizza.... The results were actually kind of close. The winner was Cheese. Unfortunately, I did make a mistake and misspelled crust, but my crust lovers were nice enough to still vote. Personally, I'm a sauce lover.
Now on to this month's question. How Many working computers do you have in your household? Obviously don't count your calculators and your game consoles, but just the PCs and Macs or whatever you would consider a working computer. Around 10 years ago, it was a big deal to have one computer in your house, nowadays it seems like everyone has multiple computers just lying around. Home networks are almost as common as microwaves. Thanks for the good voting turnout last month and I look forward to this month's answer.

Zetaman
It's not often that you can watch the news and actually find "good news", however the other day I did. There is now a real life Superhero named "Zetaman" who helps the homeless in Portland, OR. I'm really impressed with this guy and his good works. Strangely enough, there isn't too much online about this guy. I did an image search for Zetaman and couldn't find much at all.... even Googling it, doesn't bring up too many hits. Zetaman patrols the streets of Oregon dressed in his superhero costume and finds those in need to help out. Through the interview they did in the video, he seems like he's a really nice guy, just wanting to help. Way to go Zetaman, displaying your true superpower.... kindness.

Tresling
Lately a lot of games that require "more than a controller" are getting popular. We see games such as Guitar Hero and DDR where the controller is something more than ordinary. Here's a really neat game called Tresling that combines two of our favorite games.... Tetris and Arm Wrestling. The site invites you to join the revolution, but doesn't say how, or where to get your Tresling rig. I guess I'll have to make my own, only in mine turning your hat around will score bonus points.
